The Position:
The Education Officer: Middle Years Literacy & Curriculum plays a key role in supporting Catholic Education NT’s mission to improve student learning through high-quality literacy and curriculum practices. This position provides multi-tiered support for schools in the development and implementation of whole-school literacy approaches, quality differentiated instruction, and effective screening, monitoring and intervention strategies for students. Working as part of the Teaching and Learning Team, the Education Officer will provide leadership, guidance, and professional learning to build teacher and school capacity across CENT’s Remote Aboriginal Catholic Community Schools, as well as regional and urban schools.
This position reports to the Leader Teaching and Learning, and works alongside the Teaching and Learning Team.
This position is full-time permanent commencing 12 January 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
As Education Officer: Middle Years Literacy & Curriculum, you will;
Assist school leadership teams, teachers, and support staff to use data to develop targets, actions, and measures that improve literacy outcomes for Years 5–9.
Build teachers’ capacity to deliver effective, data-informed, and engaging literacy teaching (reading and writing) across learning areas.
Facilitate Tier 1 instructional support through asynchronous learning, team teaching, collaborative planning, and professional learning opportunities.
Provide professional development and support to teachers and classroom assistants to embed evidence-based, culturally responsive literacy strategies aligned with the Australian Curriculum.
Support schools in general curriculum planning, programming, teaching, assessment, and reporting practices to strengthen student outcomes.
Contribute to CENT initiatives, projects, and networks related to teaching, learning, and professional growth.

About you:
We are looking for an Education Officer who:
Is committed to supporting the culture and Catholic ethos of CENT.
Holds postgraduate qualifications in education and eligibility for teacher registration in the Northern Territory.
Demonstrates excellence in literacy teaching, curriculum planning, programming, and pedagogy, with evidence of improved learner outcomes.
Has experience using data to inform literacy strategies and improvement planning.
Is skilled in developing and delivering professional learning for teachers of middle years learners.
Shows strong organisational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, and thrives working collaboratively in leadership and support roles.
Is willing to travel to Aboriginal Catholic Community Schools (including travel by small aircraft and on remote roads).
Desirable:
Understanding of culturally responsive practices and the diverse contexts of the Northern Territory.
Active membership in relevant professional associations or networks.
This position will involve working with children. The appointment of the successful applicant will be subject to satisfactory employment screening for child related employment in accordance with legislation.
