About the position

As a member of the Parks Assets team, you will work in the construction, repair and maintenance of built infrastructure across the City’s parks and reserves, including playgrounds, skate facilities, paths, fencing, boardwalks, shelters and parks furniture.

The main responsibilities of our General Hand Parks Assets include:

Operating and maintaining plant and equipment such as welders, power drills & saws, sanders, cement mixers, angle grinders, nail guns, generators and other general equipment.

Operating and maintaining specialised plant and equipment, such as rotary hoes, sand sifting machines, dingo, excavators, and other equipment not requiring specialised licencing.

Maintaining playgrounds, skate parks and general park infrastructure a high standard.

Assisting in the installation and maintenance of playgrounds, fencing, limestone walls, paving, boardwalks, roof timbers, bench and table timbers, gazebos, goal post sleeves, and other similar parks assets.

Ensuring work standards meet required specifications and tasks are completed in a timely manner.

Resolving on the job problems as they arise.

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must be able to demonstrate:

Substantial experience in a parks infrastructure maintenance role

Ability to work effectively as a team member

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of people

Strong focus on safety

Essential requirements

Current MR driver’s licence

Cert III in Parks and Gardens, Landscaping or equivalent qualification.

White card

National Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

Desirable requirements

Trade certificate in Carpentry / Cabinetry / Boiler making or equivalent.

Chainsaw Ticket

Concrete, paving, limestone and/or brickwork experience

Operator tickets for operating machinery such as Loader, Bobcat, Excavator, EWP, Forklift and Chainsaw.

Completion of Playground Operation Inspection Level 3
