About the role
We have an opportunity for a Principal Platform Engineer to be part of our Database and Mainframe Platform, Technology & Communication Services Command team. The Principal Platform Engineer is responsible for leading service and technical design activities for the relevant technology platform. The role also provides technical support and advice on related technologies to users across multiple locations and platforms, ensuring changes to the environment including complex deployments are managed and have minimal risk to the NSWPF and its data.
We are seeking an experienced IBM Z Mainframe Systems Programmer to join our mainframe support team on a temporary basis (up to 3 years). Mainframe Support team is responsible for day-to-day operation, administration and management of the NSWPF IBM z16 mainframe systems. This role is critical in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our mainframe environment. This is a technical support role providing 24x7 support to mainframe systems infrastructure. You will work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams to support business-critical systems.
The role is accountable for:
Install, configure, and maintain IBM Z mainframe operating systems and related subsystems
Apply system software upgrades, patches, and maintenance
Monitor system performance and implement tuning to optimise efficiency
Provide technical support for incident resolution and problem management
Configure and support mainframe network and communication components
Maintain system documentation, standards, and procedures
Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution
Collecting and analysing operational data to identify emerging trends and make recommendations
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Proven experience as a Mainframe System Programmer with IBM Z technologies
Strong knowledge of and experience in z/OS, GDPS, JCL, RACF, TWS, OMEGAMON, SMF, SMP/e, TSO/ISPF SDSF and related IBM subsystems CICS, MQ and Integration
Hands-on experience with mainframe networking
Experience in performance monitoring and tuning tools
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a mission-critical environment
Strong communication and collaboration skills
