The Team:

The Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officers (EMDSOs) are integral members of the State Communications Centre based in Hobart, where the delivery of ambulance care begins. This team operates in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, providing critical support in emergency call-taking and coordination.

The Role:

As a member of the Ambulance Tasmania (AT) State Operations Centre Team the Emergency Medical Dispatch Support Officer (EMDSO) undertakes call taking duties and/or non-emergency dispatch.

The EMDSO will receive, record and prioritise requests for ambulance services, using telephone, and computer aided dispatch systems and other ancillary communications equipment.

Provide high quality pre-arrival advice in accordance with predetermined algorithms.

You will need to:

  • Receive, record and prioritise requests for ambulance services, including the provision of high-quality pre-arrival instructions, following mandatory predetermined decision-making algorithms.
  • Operate in accordance with documented Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Receive and make telephone calls concerning ambulance operations, public and administrative inquiries and any other relevant calls, including liaison with allied health care workers, other emergency service providers and support agencies.

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, shift worker position (fully rotational), working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $93,096 to $98,501 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Ambulance Tasmania Agreement 2022.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

Holds a Certificate III in Ambulance Communications or demonstrates an ability to complete the required certificate III in Ambulance Communications and to achieve and maintain an Authority to Practice

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • Medical Priority Dispatch System certification
  • Previous employment in an emergency service operations centre using a Computer Aided Dispatch System
