About the role:
The Therapeutic and Allied Health team provide therapeutic supports to children, young people, adults and families. These services aim to create therapeutic environments which assist individuals to heal from their trauma. All services delivered by Junction are underpinned by the organisation’s evidence-informed Therapeutic Framework.
The Child & Adolescent Counsellor is responsible for providing therapeutic intervention to childrenand young people who have experienced homelessness, along with their parents/carers. The Child & Adolescent Counsellor will provide therapeutic interventions using various modalities including individual counselling and brief intervention. While the role is child focused, this service adopts a family orientated approach, at times requiring close work with the child’s family to support coregulation and strengthening attachment.
Selection Criteria:
An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or a related discipline. Qualifications must align with the Mandatory Minimum Qualification Requirements for Specialist Family Violence Workers (Recommendation 209).
Demonstrated ability to undertake comprehensive psychosocial and relevant risk assessments with clients and their families including relevant legislation underpinning these areas of practice.
Demonstrated experience in providing counselling and therapeutic support to children, young people and their families.
Demonstrated knowledge of trauma, attachment and neurobiology frameworks and theories.
A solid understanding of homelessness and the impacts upon children and young people within a developmental context.
