You will need to have the capability to work alone, and with contracted support, to meet ALACC’s strategic priorities. You will ensure timely and systematic communication with ALACC members, especially its Chair.
This role offers the opportunity to work with knowledgeable and committed members who are focused on advancing evidence-based arguments for achieving an important public good: a better balance between the needs of creators and members of the public wishing to use library and archive collections to research and produce new knowledge.
You will have:
A law degree or equivalent experience
Demonstrated understanding of copyright and intellectual property law
Commitment to advancing strong arguments for copyright law reform
Proven ability to research, synthesise, and produce high quality written communication
Proven proficiency in advocacy and presentation including excellent oral communication skills and the ability to cultivate relevant networks.
A high level of digital literacy
Capacity to work autonomously, and to ensure systematic and timely communication with the Chair and members of ALACC.
Experience in working at a not-for-profit body or similar would be an advantage.
In this role you will:
Research issues and write papers and submissions on copyright law and its impact on libraries and archives on behalf of ALACC;
Liaise with Parliamentarians and government departments on issues relating to information regulation and copyright, particularly the Attorney General’s Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade;
Monitor and provide comment on proposed changes to Commonwealth copyright legislation and any other relevant legislation and regulation;
Support the ALACC Management Committee by providing advice and implementing key decisions;
Supervise external contractors delivering secretariat and accounting services, and developing high quality educational and marketing content.
Administer and manage day to day affairs of the ALACC, including budget management.
