We are seeking a motivated and community-focused individual to join our Community Planning and Place team as a Temporary Urban Planner. This opportunity is open to both graduates looking to kickstart their career and experienced planners seeking a short-term contract where they can make a meaningful impact.
You will assist in the delivery of planning services and projects across the Town, working closely with experienced professionals and community stakeholders. Depending on your level of experience, you will:
Assist with or manage statutory planning applications and provide planning advice.
Support the preparation of planning documents, reports, and Council briefings.
Conduct research and analysis on urban development trends, zoning regulations, and environmental impacts.
Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and site assessments.
Support and/or lead community engagement activities, workshops, and public meetings.
Collaborate with internal teams, external agencies, and developers to deliver high-quality planning outcomes.
Skills & Experience
We are open to applications from both graduate-level planners (final year or recently completed tertiary study) and experienced urban planners. Ideally, you will bring:
Tertiary qualification (or near completion) in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline.
Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
Knowledge of WA’s planning framework, including the Residential Design Codes and local planning schemes.
For graduates: developing skills in research, analysis, report writing, and stakeholder engagement.
For experienced planners: demonstrated capability in statutory and/or strategic planning (local government experience desirable).
Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
Organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Commitment to customer service and collaborative teamwork.
Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
