Deputy Chief Inspectorate

Location: Hobart, Tasmania
We are currently searching for a suitably experienced and self-motivated individual to join our Inspectorate management team in a permanent, full-time capacity.
The ideal candidate will hold a Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
About the Role
Inspectors are responsible for responding to reports of animal cruelty including case management, conducting investigations, and enforcing the Animal Welfare Act 1993.
This diverse and interesting role offers the opportunity to:
Contribute to improving animal welfare within the community by educating about appropriate animal care and legislative responsibilities.
Provide high-quality advice, education, guidance and referral to other relevant agencies where required.
Manage and respond to animal welfare and cruelty reports, carry out inspections, and ensure that animals injured, distressed, or at risk are provided with assistance and care.
Enforce relevant legislation and facilitate timely prosecutions for offences, including case management, brief compilation and warrant applications.
Ensure effective case management by keeping records up to date, including data entry and note-taking.
Support state-wide operations as required with long-distance travel, overnight stays, after-hours and weekend work.
Represent the RSPCA in a variety of public forums including educational, media and promotional activities, and build relationships with relevant agencies and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Enforce the Animal Welfare Act 1993, and other relevant legislation and regulations as introduced.
Conduct investigations and inspections; issue instructions, infringement notices, warnings, and summonses; and report on activities as required.
Educate the public (including schools, government, and community groups) about animal legislation and best-practice animal care.
Specific Accountabilities
Monitor statewide operations in support of the Chief Inspector.
Provide reports to the Chief Inspector on operational matters and progress.
Act as Chief Inspector in their absence or as directed.
Review operational plans, warrants, and paperwork for major operations.
Oversee training progress of new inspectors and refresher training for current inspectors.
Complete tasks assigned by the Chief Inspector.
Manage portfolios at the request of the Chief Inspector.
Perform duties of an Inspector (Authorised Officer) as required.
Appear in court and provide testimony as required.
Liaise with police officers, councils, court officials, veterinarians, and other stakeholders.
Conduct audits of investigations and provide managerial oversight.
Review operational processes, implementing changes in consultation with the Chief Inspector.
Assist in managing human and other resources of the Inspectorate team.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, codes of practice, and WHS legislation.
Maintain inspection files in line with document management procedures.
Assist the community with information on animal welfare policies and laws.
Review and ensure quality of court documents.
Attend training courses and meetings as required.
Comply with the operational procedures manual, code of conduct, and RSPCA policies.
Conduct media interviews regarding cruelty cases and prosecutions, as requested by the Chief Inspector.

Other Requirements
Current Tasmanian manual driver’s licence (or ability to obtain).
Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to adapt to new systems.
Current First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain).
Current police and Working with Vulnerable People checks (or ability to obtain).
Current firearms licence (or ability to obtain).
Availability for out-of-hours work and interstate travel.
Willingness to carry and use personal protective equipment.
Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
