The Opportunity
Our Innovation and Commercialisation team champions the identification, development and commercialisation of the technology and innovations developed by our scientists and clinicians. We partner with industry and investors to achieve and accelerate translation to improve children's health.
The Head of Commercialisation and Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for driving and developing commercialisation opportunities throughout the Institute. You will be pivotal in bringing our discoveries to the world by identifying high-potential opportunities, forging strategic partnerships, and building sustainable business models that deliver both patient impact and financial returns.
In this role, you will:
Lead a high-performing team and foster a culture of innovation across the Institute.
Critically assess and develop translational opportunities from the Institute's research, digital innovations, and clinical services to generate financial and impact returns.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with industry, government, investors, and other research organisations.
Oversee the Institute’s portfolio of commercial assets, ensuring strategic alignment and optimal financial and impact returns.
Provide expert guidance on IP strategy and lead due diligence and deal structuring.
Conveniently based in our modern offices within Perth Children’s Hospital, this full-time role will be offered on an ongoing basis. Part-time will be considered for the right candidate.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will hold a degree in a relevant field such as Science, Medicine, Biotechnology, Business, or Law. You will also possess the following skills and experience:
A track record of senior experience in leading commercialisation and business development in a complex environment, preferably within a medical research or biotechnology environment.
Strong leadership and coaching skills, with experience in developing high-performing teams.
Demonstrated success in structuring and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
Deep expertise in intellectual property management, including strategy, protection, valuation and commercial transactions
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders, including academic, government and industry partners.
