Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital
You will assist in the provision of pharmacy services to patients, external organisations, and other hospital caregivers by providing technical support to pharmacists.
The Position
- Assist in the recording, labelling, setting up and preparation of sterile products including cytotoxic medications and total parenteral nutrition solutions
- Assume control for the ordering of medications and consumable products for the Sterile Suite. Follow established stock control procedures
- Assist in the preparation of statistical reports, and quality assurance documentation
- Assist with the charging process for sterile products
- Undertake the delivery of cytotoxic medications to wards
- Order medications, other stock and maintain paperwork
- Liaise with the Head Pharmacy Technician regarding any supply issues including delays in supply and labelling/presentation inconsistencies
- Operate the imprest system for distribution of pharmaceuticals to wards, and departments
- Deliver pharmaceuticals requested by wards and departments and ensure proper stock rotation, and checking of expiry dates
- Check deliveries, sort and transfer stock to designated storage fixtures
- Repack bulk medications into units of issue under the supervision of a pharmacist
- Ensure proper stock rotation and checking of expiry dates
- Maintain all records, and statistical data in relation to imprest stock
- Undertake regular cleaning, and maintenance of equipment including defrosting medication storage refrigerators
- Assist in preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals under supervision of a pharmacist
- Assist with the recycling of medications returned from wards and departments including patient's own medications
- Assist with the recovery of owing prescriptions according to pharmacy procedures
- Check and maintain the medication inventory in the Emergency Cupboard and prepare utilisation and non-recorded medication reports
- Assist with the impresting, delivery and dispensing of restricted medications, including Schedule 8 medicines.
- Provide relief for Pharmacy Reception as required
- Assist other support caregivers with their duties as required and requested by the Chief Pharmacist or Pharmacist Coordinators
- Undertake any other duties as requested by the Chief Pharmacist or Coordinators consistent with the position of Pharmacy Technician
You will be familiar with the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and dispensing procedures. You will also be familiar with or be prepared to undertake training on preparation of cytotoxic medications.
To succeed you will have well developed verbal and written communication skills and a knowledge of medication terminology. You will have excellent time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised to meet deadlines. You will be required to demonstrate attention to detail, instructions and work procedures with the ability to document accurately and neatly.
Possession of or progress towards Certificate IV Medical Technicians and Assistants (Pharmacy) or equivalent will be highly regarded.

- Salary: $74,627 to $85,129 plus 12% superannuation
