Payroll Specialist | 6-Month Contract | East Fairfield
Join a national business during a critical stabilisation phase and play a key role in fixing, streamlining, and managing payroll operations. Reporting to the Head of People & Culture and partnering closely with finance, this is a hands-on role with real impact.
The Opportunity:
- Take ownership of payroll across multiple pay cycles (weekly, fortnightly, monthly)
- Unpack and stabilise payroll processes, identify risks, and implement improvements.
- Configure and optimise Xero payroll and Deputy time & attendance systems.
- Manage awards, allowances, overtime, and unionised workforce complexities.
- Ensure compliance across payroll tax, workers comp, and reporting.
- Partner with P&C and Finance to improve segregation of duties, approvals, and accuracy.
- Support remediation work, including back pay and error corrections, with confidentiality and precision.
What You’ll Bring:
- Proven payroll experience in complex, blue-collar environments.
- Strong understanding of industrial instruments, awards, OT, and allowances.
- Hands-on system skills in Xero (payroll) and Deputy (time & attendance) preferred.
- Process-driven mindset with the ability to streamline, automate, and implement controls.
- Detail-oriented, resilient, and comfortable working through manual processes while building improvements.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to partner across HR, Finance, and Operations.
