Your next career opportunity

As a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Melbourne's Bio21 Institute and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, you will investigate how the medically important parasite, Toxoplasma gondii, establishes chronic infections in humans. You'll utilise cutting-edge metabolomic, metabolic flux, and modelling approaches to identify metabolic processes that underlie parasite differentiation. This National Institute of Health-funded position offers you the chance to work with world-class facilities and collaborate with leading experts in the field, contributing to groundbreaking research that will impact global health.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct Innovative Research: Develop and execute research programs aligned with NIH grant aims, focusing on parasite metabolism and differentiation.
  • Utilise Advanced Technologies: Operate state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instruments and develop new techniques for studying parasite metabolism.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Engage with research teams, metabolomics facilities, and modelling groups to advance project goals.
  • Contribute to Scientific Output: Prepare publications, research proposals, and reports, while assisting in training research students.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a highly motivated researcher with a strong background in biochemistry, microbiology, or related disciplines, possessing expertise in biological mass spectrometry or computational biology and a passion for unravelling complex biological processes.

You may also:

  • Hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Have experience in metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics, or computational biology.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with data processing, informatics software, and modelling approaches.
  • Possess strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Show adaptability in learning new techniques and meeting project timelines.
  • Have experience working in PC2 laboratory environments and handling pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills in R/Python and multi-omics analysis.
