About the role

We are seeking a Strategic Planner Student to become a part of our Strategic Planning Business Unit. In this position, you will be rotating through our three busy teams: Local Area Planning and Policy, Strategic Land Use Planning and Sustainable Environment to assist in progressing a range of sustainable environment projects, strategies and policies.

Typical projects undertaken by the team include assisting in Local Area Planning (community priority setting), developing a strategic sustainability management approach in a growth environment and assisting the City in land use and potential development research. This position also involves project management, stakeholder engagement, internal liaison, and requires good analytical, research and reporting skills.

The role is offered on a 12-month fixed term part-time basis for up to 30 hours per fortnight (with potentially additional hours available during university holiday periods). We work in a flexible environment with the days and hours of working to be mutually agreed upon with the successful applicant. The role is set to commence in November 2025.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Support projects that contribute to the development of the Sustainable Environment strategy and planning framework for Council
  • Assist with reviews that evaluate, against relevant federal, state and Council policies, both statutory and non-statutory plans submitted by public and private entities
  • Deliver assigned work in a timely fashion and to a high professional standard
  • Work under guidance and within approved work plans and terms of reference
  • Operate within Equal Opportunity and Occupational Health and Safety legislation

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Have or be working towards a tertiary qualification at a Degree level, or above, in either Urban and Regional Planning or Environmental Sustainability field or similar.
  • Knowledge of the range of issues arising from rapid urban growth.
  • Ability to establish and manage both internal and external relationships and work effectively within a team environment.
  • Evidence of good analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to plan and organise own workload.
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.

The salary for this position will be from $68,485.62 - $74,307.64 per annum pro rata, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
