Drive strategy. Mentor a team. Make a difference.

  • Full time, ongoing position (part time considered)
  • Location: Melbourne CBD on Wurundjeri Country / Hybrid (with travel to regional areas as required)
  • Salary range: $110,357 - $127,333 (pro rata) + super, plus salary packaging

We're seeking a Senior Recruitment & Retention Consultant to help us shape the future of legal assistance in Victoria.

Working closely with senior leaders, you'll play a key role in solving some of our most pressing talent challenges—attracting and retaining skilled, purpose-driven professionals to deliver specialist legal and other services to remote and regional communities where they're needed most.

This is more than recruitment. It's an opportunity to help create a stronger, more accessible justice system for people facing disadvantage.

What you'll do:

  • Lead recruitment especially for high-impact, senior and hard-to-fill roles—from initial brief to successful onboarding.
  • Advise and influence hiring managers as a trusted partner, helping shape best-practice approaches to position design, candidate attraction and selection.
  • Drive strategic projects to improve recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes—contributing to a more agile, inclusive, and impactful HR function.
  • Mentor and guide a team of recruitment consultants, building capability in sourcing, assessment, and stakeholder management.
  • Champion equity and access, helping us attract and retain a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, in line with our Aboriginal Employment Strategy and DEI goals.

About you

  • Extensive recruitment experience including proactive sourcing and headhunting, ideally in a public sector, complex or high-volume environment.
  • Strong consulting skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide hiring decisions with confidence and credibility.
  • A coaching mindset—you enjoy sharing your expertise, giving feedback and supporting others to grow.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to address hard-to-fill roles, remote service challenges and systemic barriers to talent attraction.
  • Deep commitment to inclusion and experience applying culturally safe, accessible, and responsive recruitment practices.
  • Great communication and collaboration—you're equally comfortable engaging with executives or advising early-career recruiters.
  • Systems-savvy, with experience using e-recruitment tools such as Springboard, and using data to drive decisions.
  • A purpose-driven approach, with a genuine desire to improve outcomes for people and communities doing it tough.
