Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Senior Nurse - Mental Health intake / Key Clinician to join our Older Adult community mental health team (SOACS) Specialist Older adult consultation/community service.

Services are provided through our five main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn Centre, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, Preston, Mill Park and Coburg.

About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

About the Role:

This role requires an enthusiastic Senior Nurse with experience working in community Mental health inclusive of intake, crises assessment and Key clinician work.

A passion for caring for the older person is a must, with an awareness of the complexities of mental health in older person.

You will have excellent assessment and risk assessment skills. You will be required to be mobile, flexible and comfortable with intake and telehealth assessments as well as visiting a diverse range of Older adults in their home or aged care facilities.

You will be primarily based as a Key clinician at Bundoora Centre, where you will be confident and comfortable working as part of team and seeking support and consult of team members as required.

This role is evolving so initially is being offered as fixed term.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Have current driver's license and confidant navigating the northwest areas of Melbourne.
  • Experience of least 5 years working in mental health setting.
  • Demonstrated Mental Health assessment / risk assessment skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, and able to safely prioritise community care- having sound time management skills and able to work as a collaborative team member.
  • Able to Escalate concerns re safety, quality and risk to appropriate staff if unable to rectify yourself.
  • Well-developed engagement skills, being able to work with older people from diverse / disenfranchised backgrounds. As well as Ability to undertake a range of interventions with consumers.
  • Have completed a post graduate Mental health nursing qualification or equivalent. Be currently registered without any restrictions.
