We're looking for an experienced APS6 Senior Policy Officer to help deliver one of the largest reforms to veterans' legislation in over 100 years. This is a hands-on role shaping policy, systems, and stakeholder engagement to improve outcomes for veterans and their families.

About the Division

The Policy and Research Division is part of the Policy & Programs Group. It contains three branches: Health & Wellbeing Policy, Benefits Policy, and Research, Evaluation & Privacy. The Division designs and implements policies to improve the wellbeing of veterans and families, drives legislative reform to simplify compensation frameworks, and fosters relationships with government agencies, ex-service organisations, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver on government priorities, including the development and implementation of veteran health and wellbeing policy.

Provide high-quality advice on policy issues and draft ministerial briefings, correspondence, reports, meeting papers and discussion papers.

Gather and analyse data and research to inform technical policy advice.

Review and update policy documentation to support frontline service delivery.

Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Support governance committees with presentations, briefing materials, and coordination.

Contribute to the Government's response to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.

About You

Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation.

Strong understanding of government processes, including budget and legislative frameworks.

Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical matters into clear advice.

Skilled at stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

Self-motivated, resilient, and able to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
