About the role
As an Executive Assessment Officer, you will be responsible for the expert assessment of complex and sensitive Development Applications, modifications, reviews and related planning matters. Your work will ensure applications meet statutory requirements, contribute positively to the local environment, and reflect Council's strategic planning goals.
Reporting to the Team Leader Development Assessment, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assess and report on complex Development Applications, modifications, and review applications in accordance with the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 and relevant policies
- Prepare high-quality, well-reasoned assessment reports, including recommended conditions of consent or clear reasons for refusal that adhere to legal and procedural requirements
- Provide accurate technical advice and specialist support to internal teams, the public, Councillors, and external stakeholders
- Represent Council at site inspections, Planning Panel meetings, court proceedings, and other forums as required
- Mentor and supervise junior planning staff, sharing expertise and fostering a collaborative team environment
- Investigate complaints, respond to public enquiries, and assist with compliance matters as required
Qualifications, Skills & experience
- Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning, Building Surveying or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a town planner or building surveyor, preferably in local government
- Strong background in statutory planning, development assessment, strategic planning, and regulatory frameworks
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
- understanding of planning legislation, environmental assessment processes, and development control principles
- Ability to assess complex DAs and prepare reports that are accurate, concise, and legally robust
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent time management and attention to detail
