About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) Officer to join our team on an up to 6-Month Maximum Term Contract. In this key role, you will play a key part in championing a strong safety culture across all Council operations, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and promoting a safe working environment.
Working closely with the Manager Risk and Governance, you will identify potential risks, implement effective safety systems and contribute to the continuous improvement of WHS performance across Council. This is an opportunity for a WHS professional who is passionate about workplace safety and is confident in engaging with team members at all levels to drive positive change.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, regulations, policies and procedures
- With the Manager Risk and Governance, coordinate the WHS Committee and Committee Action Plans
- Develop, review and implement WHS policies, procedures, forms and systems
- Deliver in-house WHS training and education
- Support leaders to conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections and incident investigations and identify controls
- Conduct WHS audits
- Coordinate and deliver WHS inductions, and
- Support Return to Work administrative functions.
About You
As an ideal candidate, you will bring a solid understanding of WHS legislation, experience with safety systems and knowledge in best practice WHS initiatives. You will also bring:
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or working towards), and
- Return to Work Coordinator training and experience, or willingness to undertake training
Knowledge and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of NSW Work Health and Safety legislation and related legislation, Codes of Practice and Standards
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing WHS management systems, strategies, plans, projects and initiatives
- Ability to effectively process and respond to safety incidents
- Ability to conduct risk assessments, system audits and workplace inspections, and
- A current class 'C' drivers licence.
What We Offer
- Work-life balance, working up to 30-hours per week. Days of work are flexible and can be any two-to-three days between Monday to Friday
- Located at Council's Jindera or Holbrook Office
- Salary range from $44.25 to $49.56 gross per hour, dependant on skills and experience, plus 12% Superannuation contribution, with optional salary sacrifice
- Up to 6-month maximum term contract
