As a Midwife Clinical Specialist, you will work on-call as the primary midwife, providing continuity of care to women planning to birth at home, including antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for up to six weeks. You’ll deliver collaborative, evidence-based, and culturally responsive care within a primary health care framework, supporting women with normal-risk pregnancies in their homes and, when necessary, in hospital settings.
About the Midwifery Group Practice
The Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) is located at Royal Darwin Hospital and provides women-centred, culturally safe care through a continuity-of-care model from early pregnancy to six weeks postpartum. Women are supported by a small team of midwives—often with a primary midwife—and can choose to birth at home or in hospital, depending on preferences, eligibility and staffing availability. MGP provides flexible clinic and home visits, and 24/7 midwife phone support.
About you
You’re passionate about woman-centred care and committed to clinical excellence. To be successful you will have:
Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.
Proven high-level clinical knowledge and skills in Midwifery or related field, supported by strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
Commitment to a learning culture through clinical guidance and mentoring.
Experience supporting local/ regional policy development, interpreting policy and precedent, and contributing to change management initiatives.
Well-developed understanding of social and cultural factors influencing client and family health care.
