About the role

Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Landscape Architect to join our dynamic team to plan, design and deliver a broad range of open space projects. This role sits within the Council’s Open Space Design and Development team which focuses on best practice open space design in consultation with the Merri-bek community.

Key responsibilities
  • Plan, design and construct park upgrades including playspaces
  • Undertake extensive consultation with residents and stakeholders during all phases of project delivery
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Council’s Capital Works Program including construction supervision of works with our in-house construction team and external contractors
  • Provide expert advice to the organisation on open space design, construction queries and park upgrades
  • Ensure compliance with recordkeeping, ethics, and health and safety standards
Skills and experience require to perform the role
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or a related discipline
  • Experience in all aspects of open space project delivery is essential, preferably in a local government setting
  • Strong spatial design skills using proficiency in current versions of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite and other design packages
  • Strong understanding of a range of landscape technologies and how to incorporate into a design (e.g. Accessibility in public space, environmental sustainability, native plants, playspace design, maintainability of public space, use of landscape materials etc)
  • Good project management skills including planning a design and its construction as a project, tracking its progress and problem solving
  • Ability to design and construct to a fixed budget and to time
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction as well as working with others
  • Ability to liaise clearly and concisely with a range of stakeholders both external and internal including project reporting
  • Understanding of associated policies/strategies and planning overlays and how they might impact a project
