Are you working towards your Civil Engineering degree and looking for practical, career-building experience?
Maroondah City Council’s Traffic Engineering team is offering a 12-month industry-based learning (IBL) opportunity for an enthusiastic student to join us as a Technical Officer - IBL.
What You'll Do
As part of our team, you will be mentored in the fundamentals of traffic engineering and transport planning, while contributing meaningfully to real projects that impact our community. You will work alongside experienced engineers, building your professional skills and gaining exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support and advice to the Traffic Engineering Services team, as well as internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Undertaking investigations into traffic and transportation issues, analysing data, preparing recommendations, and drafting professional correspondence.
- Supporting the traffic team with the delivery of traffic engineering and transport planning projects, programming traffic counts, and preparing or assisting with grant applications.
- Assisting in the assessment and processing of town planning applications, with a focus on traffic engineering considerations, and providing high-level advice to the Planning Department.
- Assessing and processing National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) route applications and Temporary Traffic Management Permits and approvals.
- Contributing to Council’s overall operational objectives and service standards by assisting with the development and delivery of transport and traffic programs and projects.
About You / Role Requirements
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is in their third year (or beyond) of a Civil Engineering degree, or similar
- Holds a valid driver’s licence (probationary or full)
- Communicates clearly and confidently, verbally and in writing
- Works well independently and as part of a team and is excited to develop new skills and drive positive change
