Junior Bookkeeper (12-Month Contract)

Salary: $60,000 + Superannuation
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Bookkeeper to join our finance team on a 12-month contract to cover maternity leave, with the possibility of permanency. This role is ideal for someone starting out or early in their accounting career, eager to gain hands-on experience and grow within the organisation. You will assist with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, with a strong focus on Accounts Payable and financial record-keeping, while supporting the Accountant.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
Process and enter supplier invoices into the accounting system in a timely and accurate manner.
Match purchase orders, delivery dockets, and invoices, ensuring all supporting documents are correct.
Verify supplier details, pricing, and payment terms.
Prepare weekly/monthly supplier payment runs.
Reconcile supplier statements and follow up on discrepancies.
Manage supplier queries, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and professionally.
Track due dates to ensure payments are made on time and avoid late fees.
Maintain proper filing of supplier invoices (digital/physical).
Assist with monitoring expenses and coding transactions to the correct cost centres/projects.
Liaise with internal teams (e.g., procurement, operations) regarding invoice approvals and disputes.
General Bookkeeping
Perform bank reconciliations and ensure records align with actual transactions.
Assist with accounts receivable – generating invoices, monitoring outstanding payments, and sending reminders.
Process staff expense claims, credit card reconciliations, and petty cash transactions.
Maintain accurate general ledger entries and journals.
Assist in preparing BAS, GST, and compliance tasks under supervision.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
Provide assistance during internal and external audits.
Skills & Qualifications
Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Finance (or currently studying).
A completed Certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Finance is required as the minimum qualification.
Prior experience in bookkeeping or accounts is desirable but fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or ERP systems).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing invoices and payments.
Good numerical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent time management and ability to handle multiple deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Word.
Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with suppliers and internal teams.
Candidates must have Australian work rights, including citizens, permanent residents, and those with valid work visas.
