Position Title: International Student Advisor / Counsellor
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Overview:
The International Student Advisor / Counsellor provides personalized guidance and support to international students seeking advice on academic pathways, migration options, and life in Australia. This role involves assessing individual needs and advising students on available educational and migration opportunities, ensuring they make informed decisions that align with their goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct one-on-one consultations with international students, providing expert advice on course selection, study pathways, and migration options.
Advise students on visa application processes, requirements, and timelines.
Assist students with the application process for schools, colleges, universities, and migration-related documentation.
Provide information and resources regarding living in Australia, including accommodation, cultural integration, and work opportunities.
Stay up-to-date with the latest changes in Australian education policies, visa regulations, and migration laws.
Maintain detailed records of student consultations and progress.
Organize and facilitate workshops or seminars to educate students about visa applications, career planning, and settlement services.
Liaise with universities, colleges, and government bodies to ensure students have the most accurate and up-to-date information.
Provide emotional and social support to students, offering guidance on adapting to life in Australia and overcoming common challenges.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Tertiary qualifications in Education, Migration Law, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields.
Previous experience in student counselling, migration services, or related advisory roles (ideally working with international students).
Current Australian work authorisation required at the time of application.
In-depth knowledge of Australian education systems, visa regulations, and migration processes.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex regulations and options in a clear and approachable manner.
Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the challenges international students face.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with CRM software.
Fluency in English (other languages are a plus, especially Mandarin, Hindi, or Arabic).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with student recruitment or marketing in the education sector.
Ability to network with educational institutions, government agencies, and community organisations.
Working Conditions:
Full-time or part time role with occasional evening or weekend hours.
Based in Melbourne, with occasional travel to partner institutions or events.
