Ready to Own Procurement at a Council That’s Evolving?
Tenterfield Shire Council is looking for a full-time Procurement Officer based in Tenterfield, NSW. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Delivery, you’ll play a central role in driving procurement reform and embedding best practices across Council operations. This is a newly created role, giving you the chance to shape it from the ground up and influence both policy and practice. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Validating business needs and assessing risks to inform procurement planning
Conducting sourcing activities and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
Leading tender and quotation processes, including preparation and evaluation
Managing Council’s Contracts Register and procurement documentation
Supervising the Council Store and overseeing supplier engagement
Supporting internal stakeholders with procurement planning and training
Assisting in the development of updated procurement policies and procedures

Is This You?
You’re someone who understands that great procurement is about more than just compliance — it’s about strategic influence, good governance, and adding real value. You’ll thrive in this role if you have at least 4 years of hands-on procurement experience and a Certificate IV (or higher) in Business, Procurement, Supply Chain, or a similar discipline. You must also hold:
A current Class C Driver’s Licence
Strong working knowledge of procurement legislation and best practices
Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and training skills
Ability to manage competing priorities and confidently lead processes from end to end
Additionally, the following skills, background and checks will be highly valued:
Experience using systems like TenderLink and VendorPanel
Experience in supervising staff or coordinating small teams
Local Government experience
Contract management qualifications
You’ll also be confident providing practical procurement advice and support to other teams, helping them navigate processes in a highly regulated local government environment.
You’re someone who takes initiative, brings clarity to complex processes, and enjoys collaborating across teams to drive smarter procurement outcomes. You’ll be a clear communicator, a collaborative team player, and a natural problem solver with a strong sense of integrity and a keen eye for detail.
