Who we are

Mingaan Wiradjuri Aboriginal Corporation (MWAC) is an Aboriginal community controlled non-profit organisation located in the Lithgow area of New South Wales. MWAC represents Wiradjuri Elders, Aboriginal Land Council representatives and Aboriginal community members from all age groups and walks of life. We have been established since 2007 as a registered organisation with the Office of Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC).

MWAC was established to provide meaningful and culturally supportive employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal people in environmental and cultural heritage preservation and management throughout a sacred cultural landscape. This contributes to the resilience and continuation of cultural knowledge. The opportunity

The Murun-gi-y-ali-nya Ngiyanhigin-gu Ngurambang Indigenous Rangers Program is an exciting new opportunity taking place throughout Lithgow, Oberon, and Mudgee LGA’s. A core management area for the program will be Maiyingu Marragu Aboriginal Place, within Lithgow LGA.

You will be a part of a culturally supportive team, working to conserve Ngurambang through environmental and cultural heritage management practices. You will have opportunities for professional and skills development to support your success and growth in the program. The day-to-day work will be primarily field based, with some classroom-based training as required. Positions are open to men and women, however, we are particularly focused on providing culturally supportive employment to women and strongly encourage women to apply. Key responsibilities include

· Yindyamarra for Wiradjuri cultural protocols and traditional knowledge, with a demonstrated understanding of respectful sharing of knowledge, communication with Elders and community.

· Willingness to participate in training, develop and maintain key skills required for success in the role.

· Commitment to following safe work practices, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment, compliance with WHS standards, ensuring individual and team safety.

· Commitment to working productively in a culturally supportive team, with no tolerance to any form of discrimination.

· Willingness to maintain a reasonable level of health and fitness to support your safety, wellbeing and ability in your role.

· Willingness to participate in cultural fire, weed and feral animal management activities – subject to necessary qualifications, experience, and suitable health and fitness.

· Willingness to operate and maintain a range of plant and equipment used in day-to-day work activities.

· Willingness to undertake administrative tasks necessary in your role; completion of pre-starts and relevant operational documents that ensure adequate record keeping and WHS compliance, including timely completion of timesheets. Support will be provided where needed.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Confirmation of Aboriginality via relevant documentation, and or demonstrated connection to and acceptance by Aboriginal community. (Please note that preferrable applicants for the program are Wiradjuri people, however we welcome non-Wiradjuri applicants).

2. Respect for Wiradjuri cultural protocols.

3. Value for respectful communication with all members of your team, and members of the public.

4. Willingness to work outdoors, in a team, often at remote bush sites.

5. Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and complete the required training for all key duties such; as pest animal management, weed control and cultural burns.

6. Willingness and ability to follow instructions provided by your Team Leader, and or Ranger Program Coordinator, and adhere to all workplace policies and procedures.

7. Hold a current and valid NSW driver’s license.

8. Hold a valid and current NSW Working With Children’s Check.

Desirable

All successful applicants will hold, or be willing to obtain during the first 6 months of employment:

· the ability to safely operate a manual vehicle.

· experience and ability in safe operation of a 4WD.

· a current Apply First Aid Certificate.

· SafeWork NSW (White Card) certification.

· National Police and Criminal History Check – (this will be completed as part of the onboarding process, upon being offered and accepting a position).

· Previous experience such as - a relevant trade, or any environmental training, is welcomed and should be mentioned in your application.
