Organisational Overview
The NSW Athletics Partnership (NSWAP) entails Little Athletics NSW (LANSW) and Athletics NSW (ANSW) delivering the first entirely unified and single Athletics offering in NSW in 56 years and has three main components:
A single Affiliation structure
A single Membership offering
A single Championship and Events pathway.
The NSWAP ensures the removal of duplicated membership costs and administration processes, while also significantly expanding competition opportunities and pathways for all members by providing everyone with the best that both LANSW and ANSW have to offer.
NSW Athletics provides the framework for over 50,000 registered members and participants to enjoy athletics at all levels of performance, working closely with our 230+ member centres and clubs for the best interests of the sport of athletics throughout NSW.
As a result of this Partnership, our sport is currently experiencing a surge in popularity and in participation and performances and together we are poised to build on the momentum of this summer to inspire the next generation of athletes and fans and to continue growing the sport in NSW.
Position Overview
The Regional Development Officer (Western Ranges & Western Plains) provides the face of Little Athletics in the Western Ranges and Western Plains Regions. The key responsibilities of this role are to foster a strong system of clubs and centres throughout the Western Plains and Western Ranges and provide promotion of Little Athletics with the key aim of growing participation.
The role will also promote collaboration between centres and clubs within the Western Plains & Western Ranges and support the Zone Coordinators and Committees. This role will also support identification and pathways for coaches, officials and volunteers within the Western Plains & Western Ranges to support the sport.
This role will require frequent travel throughout NSW and will require some out of office hours work.
Key Responsibilities
Club/Centre Support & Development
Establish relationships with club/centre committees and other key stakeholders.
Provide support and advice to committees into best practice operations to ensure they remain financially viable and sustainable.
Maintain a register on the status and viability of all clubs/centres.
Deliver annual initiatives that drive improvements in the capability of clubs/centres.
Providing advice and assistance regarding best practice running of club/centre programs and competitions.
Provide support to clubs/centres and oversight of Child Protection policies and Working with Children Check obligations.
Build relationships with Council, NSW Office of Sport and encourage partnerships with other sports and community groups.
Provide support in the rollout and execution of governance initiatives
Zone & Region Support
Provide regular support to Zone Coordinators, Zone Committees and Region Committees.
Where possible, attend Zone Committee meetings.
Deliver initiatives within Zones and Regions that promote the sharing of good practice and cross-centre engagement.
Support the delivery of Zone and Region Championships.
Coaches, Officials & Volunteers
Assist clubs/centres and Zones in identifying individuals to support pathways into coaching, officiating and volunteering.
Provide guidance to new coaches, officials and volunteers on opportunities for education and participation.
Provide assistance in allowing new coaches and officials to access education.
Look for development opportunities for coaches, officials and volunteers at local competitions as relevant
Assist with the facilitation of upskilling stakeholders
Lead face-to-face courses focused on skill development and knowledge enhancement
School & Community Engagement
Engage within the local community (including schools) to provide programs and support services to increase participation.
Coordinate participation and coaching programs.
Maintain a network of coaches to support school and community engagement programs.
Inform and distribute educational videos and resources as developed by the LANSW team and directed.
Other
Attend, support and contribute to the delivery of LANSW events as directed
Support other whole of organisation sport initiatives as directed.
Other duties as required by the Centre Support Manager or CEO from time to time.
Person Specifications and Key Selection Criteria
Essential Criteria
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
A strong understanding and involvement with administration, process and planning.
An understanding of sporting landscape and an appreciation of athletics.
Excellent customer service and communication skills – both verbal and written
Understand the local community and be able to communicate local needs and issues
The ability to think strategically to determine the best use of your time
Highly self-motivated, pro-active and able to operate remotely with minimal day to day supervision, whilst still collaborating with stakeholders via various platforms
The ability to problem-solve and have a solution focus to issues as they arise
Be able to establish strong relationships within a broad range of community groups in the regional area
Have the ability to effectively develop and manage initiatives and projects
Have the confidence to speak and present to audiences
