About the role

As the Principal Solicitor at Bayside Community Legal Service, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality legal services to the local community. In this part-time position based in Wynnum, Queensland, you will oversee the operations of the legal service and lead a team of dedicated volunteer solicitors, and support staff.

What you'll be doing

Supervising the provision of legal advice and assistance to clients on a range of matters including family law, domestic violence, criminal law, and consumer disputes

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and professional codes of conduct

Managing the day-to-day operations of the legal service, including file management, client intake, and staff supervision

Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance the service's reach and impact within the community

Engaging with key stakeholders, such as community organisations and government agencies, to build partnerships and secure funding

Overseeing the training and professional development of the legal service's staff

Representing the legal service in various forums and advocating for the rights of the community

What we're looking for

A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a current principal solicitor practising certificate

At least 5 years of experience as a solicitor, with a proven track record of providing high-quality legal services in a community legal setting

Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of legal professionals

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders

A deep understanding of the legal issues and challenges facing the local community, and a commitment to providing accessible and inclusive legal services

Experience in strategic planning, project management, and financial management
