About the Business Unit:
The Victorian Government is responsible for issuing liquor licences and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licensed environments.
On 1 July 2022 the Victorian Liquor Commission was established by legislation as the independent Victorian liquor regulator. Staff for the Victorian Liquor Commission are provided by Liquor Control Victoria, which is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety, within the Victorian Government.
Liquor Control Victoria supports the independent Victorian Liquor Commission by providing operational and administrative support and by performing various regulatory functions for Victoria's liquor industry under delegation including:
- undertaking licensing, approval, authorisation and registration activities
- supporting industry to comply with all laws and regulations, and to detect and respond to contraventions of the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 (LCR Act).
The Victorian Liquor Commission comprises Commissioners appointed by the Governor in Council and is responsible for independent regulatory decision making.
About the Role:
The Investigator is primarily responsible for leading and conducting regulatory investigations for the purpose of prosecution or disciplinary action. The position takes place within the Compliance Division.
Some of your duties will include:
- Conducting investigations into alleged breaches of the legislation administered by the Commission, identify the issues to be investigated relating to relevant legislation, policy and/or operating procedures, and recommend appropriate action
- Conducting complex research and provide expert advice on complex matters and other issues arising from investigations
- Undertaking inspections and observation of liquor venues in accordance with the allocated inspection/investigations regime provided by divisional management.

About You:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in a compliance or regulatory environment
- Demonstrated experience and expertise undertaking analysis and reporting of data
- Experience in conducting and managing complex investigations and preparing briefs.

Qualifications/Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or formal qualifications in investigations is desirable.
- Minimum 5 years investigation experience is highly desirable.
- A Victorian Drivers' Licence or equivalent is required.
