As our Pest Management Technician, you will:
• Work independently to conduct field-based surveillance, sampling, mapping, and treatment activities for the eradication of red imported fire ants in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, methodologies and permit conditions.
• Capture and validate field data and ongoing compliance with relevant quality standards, workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements and legislative obligations.
• Conduct field-based scientific technical tasks that support research and development (R&D) or delivery of scientific diagnostic services.
• Working in remote and challenging environments safely and effectively; ensuring safety is prioritised whilst adherence to legislative responsibilities is maintained.
• As relevant, routine tasks undertaken under supervision may include the following:
o Mixing chemicals to ensure compliance with permit conditions
o Maintaining, calibrating, and using testing equipment
o Cleaning and sterilising work areas, equipment, and materials
o Undertaking observations such as recognising relevant species and identifying environmental conditions
o Preparing, collecting, and managing specimens and samples
o Recording and documenting data using defined systems and methods
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure requests, queries and concerns are managed in accordance with SOPs/guidelines to achieve clear, timely and accurate information flow, including (where relevant) compliance with commercial in-confidence and privacy standards
• Develop and maintain awareness of current scientific practices and developments relevant to work area
• Support effective teamwork by contributing positively to group tasks
Licences and registrations
• A current unrestricted ‘C' class drivers' licence
• Current Queensland Pest Management licence
