About the role

As a Coordinator Town Planning, you will provide strong leadership by developing staff, fostering team unity, and managing daily operations in line with Council policies and values.

You’ll lead the implementation of statutory planning responsibilities under the Planning and Environment Act, Wyndham Planning Scheme, Subdivision Act, and other relevant legislation. This is a pivotal role that shapes the future of Wyndham’s growth and urban environment.

Reporting to the Manager City Design and Place, you will:

Oversee statutory planning services to ensure compliance, efficiency and customer focus.

Provide expert advice to Council, the Planning Committee, and other stakeholders.

Represent Council in negotiations with developers, community members, government agencies, and at VCAT where required.

Drive process improvements, policy development, and long-term planning outcomes.

Build a high-performing team culture committed to delivering excellent outcomes for our community.

This role requires strong technical planning expertise, a leadership mindset, and the ability to balance competing priorities in one of Australia’s fastest growing municipalities.

What your day will look like

Leading and mentoring a team of qualified planning professionals.

Assessing planning permit applications and preparing high-quality reports and recommendations.

Providing strategic advice on planning policy, legislation and development matters.

Negotiating with developers, objectors and referral authorities to deliver fair, transparent and balanced outcomes.

Representing Council at VCAT and engaging with external stakeholders.

Driving continuous improvement across planning processes, systems and service delivery.

Collaborating with colleagues across Council to align planning outcomes with broader community goals.

What you will bring

Degree or Diploma in Town Planning or related discipline.

Extensive statutory planning experience, with a strong understanding of Local Government and planning issues at both State and Local levels.

Demonstrated experience managing and developing high-performing teams.

Advanced understanding of Victorian planning legislation, planning scheme amendments, and development assessment processes.

Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution abilities.

Proven ability to deliver results within set timeframes while balancing competing priorities.
