About the role
Diamantina Shire Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Governance Manager to join our team in Bedourie, Queensland. This is a full-time permanent position that will play a crucial role in ensuring the Council's governance framework and practices meet all legislative requirements and industry best practices.
What you'll be doing
Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Council's governance policies, procedures and systems
Provide expert advice and guidance to the Council, Executive Leadership Team and staff on governance-related matters
Oversee the preparation of Council meeting agendas, minutes and associated documents to ensure compliance with relevant legislation
Manage the Council's records management system and ensure appropriate storage, retention and disposal of documents
Coordinate the Council's risk management and internal audit programs
Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the Council's corporate culture and ethical standards
Liaise with external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies and legal advisors on governance-related issues
What we're looking for
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. law, business, public administration)
Minimum 5 years' experience in a governance or compliance role, preferably within the local government sector
Comprehensive understanding of local government legislation, regulations and best practice governance principles
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Demonstrated experience in leading and managing governance-related projects and initiatives
High level of attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and ethical conduct
