About the Role
Are you passionate about protecting and promoting public health in remote communities? Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager Environmental Health to lead the delivery of vital environmental health services. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of the Kowanyama community by ensuring a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and communicate compliance plans for environmental health within regulatory frameworks.
Identify community needs, engage stakeholders, and deliver effective environmental health programs.
Oversee inspections, monitoring, and reporting for food premises, water and wastewater, animal welfare, waste, and community health.
Respond to and investigate complaints, providing timely and effective resolutions.
Provide technical advice on pest control, natural resource protection, and culturally significant sites.
Build partnerships with government, research, and community organisations.
Deliver health promotion and education programs to raise public health awareness.
Manage waste, food safety, housing inspections, water and sewerage, and disaster surveillance.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and Council policies.
About You
Essential:
Certificate III in Environmental Science or Public Health (or equivalent).
Significant experience in community health, hygiene, food and water safety, animal welfare, and waste management.
Strong communication, consultation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
Working knowledge of relevant legislation (Public Health Act, Food Act, Environmental Protection Act).
Experience with computer software (Word, Excel, databases).
Commitment to community engagement and service.
Desirable:
Frontline Leadership or similar qualification.
Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
Mandatory Requirements
C Class Driver’s Licence
Police clearance
Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
