Position overview

A casual Yard Operator (Rotating Shift) role has become available at our East Arm (Darwin NT) site. It is a position that offers progression, both in wages and job grade, as the person becomes more skilled in our processes.

About the role

The primary purpose of the Yard Operator is to assist with the loading & unloading of products from trucks, tankers and trailers and support the overall facility work scopes.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant’s responsibilities will include:

Ensuring compliance of all yard procedures

Assist with coordination of movements of trucks, cranes and other vehicles or equipment through the facility

Loading and unloading of trucks, tankers and trailers

Compliance with chain of responsibility requirements

Correct operation and use of yard / warehouse equipment

Housekeeping of yard area

Ensure efficient operation of site’s plant and equipment

Provide support in operations area as required

Complying with all HSE policies and procedures

Clean vehicles, equipment and customer goods using high pressure water cleaners and air compressors as required

Perform daily pre-start checks and inspections on all plant and equipment prior to use

Report all damages, faulty equipment, incidents or accidents in a timely manner

Correct and safe operation of all vehicles

Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time to time

Required skills and experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

Experience working in a chemical industry or similar is preferred (exposure working with dangerous and flammable goods preferred)

Strong commitment to safety standards

Good housekeeping skills with a focus on quality and systems

Prioir experience as a Yard Operator not required, but preferred.

Knowledge of control systems (DCS/HMI/PLC & SCADA systems) preferable

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Able to be reliable and flexible in working a rotating shift roster that will include shutdown works

Experience in equipment isolation, permit to work and job hazard analysis

Able to work reasonable overtime as required

Current and valid forklift license would be preferred

High initiative and proactive with good rapport and ability to work with multi-functions

Exposure to Manual Handling, regular heavy lifting required up to 20 kg

A strong work ethic and ability to work in a small team

Qualifications

Certification or experience in complying with dangerous goods regulations and hazardous materials storage preferred but not essential.
