Our Client

Our client is a respected not-for-profit supporting individuals, families and communities across Queensland and the Northern Territory. With services spanning hospitals, aged care, disability, family support and housing, the organisation plays a key role in delivering essential support across urban, regional and remote areas.

The legal team partners with a broad internal client base and is known for its collaborative culture, commercial mindset and pragmatic approach. The team is growing in response to increasing project activity and broader organisational change.

The Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will lead a small team and take ownership of general commercial legal work across the organisation. Key responsibilities include:

• Advising on general commercial contracts, procurement, IP and other legal frameworks;
• Leading or contributing to projects such as contracting playbooks and risk frameworks;
• Supporting the implementation of consistent workflows and guidance material across teams;
• Supervising a Legal Counsel and supporting their growth and development;
• Engaging with a wide range of internal stakeholders, including senior leadership; and
• Managing relationships with external firms.

About You

You are a commercially minded lawyer with at least 7 - 8 years’ PQE and ideally prior in-house or public sector experience. Key skills and attributes include:

• Broad commercial experience across contracts, IP, procurement and commercial projects;
• Sound judgement, strong communication and experience working with a range of stakeholders;
• Comfort working across legal areas and contributing to organisational frameworks;
• Ability to guide and support junior team members;
• Interest in building out systems and improving the way legal services are delivered; and
• Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a desire to contribute to a cohesive, values-led team.

Experience in the health, aged care, disability, university or NFP sectors will be well regarded.
