Our Corporate Office is located at Thomas Embling Hospital just 15 minutes north of the city. Due to our announced expansion across all Directorates, we have a need for experienced like-minded professionals to join our team to support our growing services. Our Directorates includes Thomas Embling Hospital, Prison Operations and our Community Directorate with highly skilled disciplines including Nursing, Lived Experience, Occupational Therapy, Psychiatry, Psychologists and Social Work. We have an outstanding L&D and discipline Educator co-hort that continually upskill our already skilled and supportive team.

About the Role:

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is Victoria’s specialist provider of forensic mental health services. We deliver recovery-focused programs that support consumers living with serious mental illness or problematic behaviours who are connected to, or at risk of contact with, the justice system, across a variety of settings including community-based services, inpatient units, and secure environments throughout Victoria.

The Director of Allied Health is responsible for leading the delivery, growth and development of Allied Health services across Forensicare. Reporting to the Executive Director Clinical Services, this role provides professional leadership and governance to all Forensicare Allied Health staff to ensure safe, effective and recovery-oriented care for consumers.

Duties:

  • Lead strategic development and delivery of Allied Health services aligned with Forensicare’s Model of Care, Strategic Plan and National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards.
  • Design and implement effective structures and processes that support integrated Allied Health practice across inpatient, community and prison settings.
  • Demonstrate strategic foresight and systems thinking to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities and contribute to whole-of-organisation decision-making.
  • Develop leadership capability, mentoring others, supporting succession planning and contributing to a strong, future-ready leadership cohort.
  • Lead with influence and integrity, building credibility across disciplines, levels and external partners to advance Forensicare’s mission.

About You:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the clinical, legal and ethical challenges for Allied Health professionals working in forensic mental health services.
  • Proven leadership experience in Allied Health service delivery, with the ability to mentor, inspire and support high-performing teams in complex service environments, and an ability to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience in leading clinical governance, risk management and policy development to uphold high standards of practice, accountability and consumer-centred care.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership, clinical teams and external stakeholders.

What you need:

  • Relevant Allied Health Degree with additional postgraduate qualifications (Occupational Therapy, Social Work)
  • Registration with relevant Allied Health Board (AHPRA (OT), or eligibility for registration with AASW).

Forensicare (Victorian Institute of Forensic Mental Health) is the state-wide specialist provider of forensic mental health services in Victoria. Forensicare is the only agency in Victoria that provides clinical forensic mental health services which span all components of the mental health and criminal justice sectors – giving Forensicare a unique perspective on mental health and public safety issues. It is able to provide specialist forensic mental health services tailored to meet the specific needs of both sectors.

We provide forensic mental health services for people:

with a serious mental illness in the criminal justice system

at risk of offending who pose a risk to themselves or others

referred from the general mental health system for specialist advice, support and/or treatment.

Forensicare’s primary focus is the provision of clinical services within a recovery framework. These services include the effective assessment, treatment and management of forensic patients, prisoners and clients.
