You will work in a small policy project team responsible for the development, review and interpretation of financial management policy and legislation. You will proactively assist the team in providing advice to the Government and entities on public sector financial management regulatory matters, such as financial management policy guidelines, standards and legislation.

To do so, you will keep abreast of developments in contemporary financial management issues and emerging trends in both the public and for-profit sectors. Where appropriate, you will be supported to provide guidance on specific issues to enable the Branch to provide well considered and authoritative advice.

As needed, you may also assist the wider branch with the provision of financial management, accounting, budgeting, and reporting services.

  • We offer flexibility, access to quality learning and development opportunities and generous leave provisions, including purchasing leave.
  • Our culture is highly supportive, teams are collaborative, we live our values
  • Our worksite is a heritage building nestled in Hobart’s CBD with a short commute.

About You

We are looking for a capable and motivated individual, experienced in financial management policy development, review and interpretation, to join our Government Finance and Accounting Branch on an 18 month fixed term basis.

You will be a member of the Branch providing advice to the Government and entities on public financial management policy, regulation and reporting issues. You will be self‑motivated to operate independently to deliver quality output that supports the development of financial management policy, guidance and advice. There will be opportunity to develop your skills and experience.

Ideally you will have:

  • experience analysing, interpreting and providing advice on financial management legislation and policy frameworks;
  • experience in managing financial policy projects;
  • a strong desire to develop your skills, experience and judgement;
  • a willingness to take on a range of responsibilities and tasks; and
  • the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be expected to undertake research and analysis of financial management policies, guidelines, standards, legislation and instructions for entities within the General Government Sector.

This opportunity is based in Treasury’s Government Finance and Accounting Branch, which monitors and reports on finances at both an agency and whole-of-government level and develops and implements financial management policy advice for the General Government Sector.

We welcome applications from a diverse range of applicants and provide flexible, hybrid working options in most roles. We want our employees to reach their full potential which is why we make reasonable adjustments to our recruitment process to enable applicants with disability, illness and injury to fully participate. Please notify us if you require any support or adjustments during the recruitment process to enable your full participation.
