We’re looking for a Site Safety Officer with proven experience in structures to oversee on a major Defence project in Wagga Wagga, NSW. This role is hands-on and site-based—working closely with site managers, engineers and crews to plan and oversee high-risk structural works such as formwork, PT decks, cores, steel and precast.

What you’ll do

Oversee and implement workplace health and safety systems across defence and structural project sites.

Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.

Develop, review, and enforce safe work method statements (SWMS) and job safety analyses (JSAs).

Lead safety inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

Report, investigate, and manage incidents, hazards, and near misses.

Liaise with defence representatives, client stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with site-specific requirements.

Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reporting.

What you’ll bring (must‑haves)

Proven experience as a Safety Officer on structural and/or defence construction projects.

Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and defence safety frameworks.

Cert IV in Work Health & Safety or higher (minimum requirement).

Additional qualifications such as ICAM Investigation, First Aid, or Lead Auditor highly regarded.

Ability to influence, lead, and embed a safety-first culture across diverse teams.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
