About Us:
We are a 7-vet (full-time equivalent) small animal independent and family-owned practice who love what we do. We have a purpose-built recently renovated modern and well-equipped building with two sterile surgical theatres, ultrasound, oxygen cage/oxygen concentrator, digital radiology suite, dental x-rays, Vet-Tome and pathology/Imagyst suite. We regularly have visiting specialists provide services for our practice.
We aim for the gold-standard of care for our patients and to facilitate this, we have a high ratio of supportive team members to vets.
Our team of over 30 employees, includes our dedicated Customer Care Team, who is supported by our Nursing Team as required.
Our Nursing Team currently consists of 3 qualified Cert IV Veterinary Nurses (1 who is currently undertaking a Vet Tech degree through CSU), 2 trainee Cert IV Veterinary Nurses and 5 Veterinary Students, who cover the majority of our weekend shifts, as well as 3 Hospital Assistant/Animal Attendants.
We are located in a pleasant leafy area in Sydney's Upper North Shore, close to National Parks and around 30 minutes from the city and close to the Northern Beaches.

About the role:
We are looking to fill an opening in our Nursing Team to start during spring 2025, with a qualified Veterinary Nurse or Veterinary Technology graduate, who has general practice experience.
We are seeking a highly motivated qualified veterinary nurse or veterinary technologist, who can bring a positive, vibrant and ‘can do’ attitude to the role and the extended clinical team.

Our Nursing Team have a rotational roster and start at varying times to ensure adequate nursing cover and to build skills across all areas of the hospital. There is no on call work required for this role.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
Preparing patients for surgery and other procedures
Anaesthetic monitoring
Placing IV catheters, blood collection, setting up IV fluids and CRIs
Assisting with dental scaling and polishing as well as dental x-rays
Monitoring hospital in-patients, including emergency and critical care cases
Assisting vets and nurse colleagues with consultations and triage cases
Nurse consultations, when required, including but not limited to giving injections, nail clipping, weight assessments, patient discharges
Maintaining a clean and organised hospital – note we have commercial cleaners twice weekly
Client service assistance – note we have a dedicated Customer Care Team so this involves assisting only when necessary
Answering overflow phone calls as needed
About you
Essentials:
Currently living in Australia and eligible to work in Australia without restrictions
Qualified Veterinary Nurse Cert IV or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (or equivalent overseas qualification)
Minimum 12 months’ experience as a qualified veterinary nurse
Proficiency in IV catheter placement and jugular vein blood sampling
Knowledge in intravenous fluid therapy and CRI set up
Experience in anaesthetic monitoring, including more complex or critical cases
CPR knowledge and experience
Experience in preparation of patients for surgery
Reliable and committed work ethic
Dedicated, enthusiastic, highly motivated and self-directed initiative to ensure productivity while on shift
Team player mentality and willingness to offer support to our clinical team

Ability to prioritise tasks accordingly and respond quickly to direction when required
Willingness to adhere to our practice policies and protocols

Determination to learn the Open VPMS Veterinary scheduling system - we will teach you!
Dedicated to maintaining a high standard within general practice to ensure patient well-being
Desirables:
Additional prior experience in a veterinary specialist facility and/or emergency and critical care with a desire to work in general practice for the foreseeable future
Experience in Doppler blood pressure monitoring, Anitek multi-monitors, capnography is an advantage but specific equipment training will be provided if required
Knowledge about management of tick toxicity but specific training on our treatment protocol will be provided
Experience in the use of Smart Flow (patient workflow system) or similar
Interest in filling the Training and Development and/or Nurse Manager role within the Nursing Team to further develop the skillset within our team and a plan for developing competency lists, supervising trainee nurses and veterinary students (note that these roles would require a minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience and preferably prior leadership experience in the field)
Live within 20 minutes of the practice
Own car and driving license
Familiarity with or an interest in the local area

Hours:
Rostered hours will vary from winter to summer and consist of a combination of early and late weekday shifts as well as 1 in 4 Sundays (there may be occasional Saturdays to cover leave), depending on our roster requirements. Shift length will vary but are generally 9.5 hours and it is important that you are able to do a combination of early start and late finishes, which will be dependent on practice requirements.
Our practice’s opening hours are:
Weekdays:
7am – 7pm (non-daylight savings)
7am – 8pm (daylight savings)
Saturdays:
7am – 4pm
Sundays & Public Holidays: (closed Christmas Day & Boxing Day)
9am – 3pm
Remuneration:
Full-time starting salary from $65 000 - $85 000 depending on experience and competency level
