Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist organisation that supports women and families in crisis and advocates for social change in the community. We work on the lands of the Gadigal, Wangal and Dharug people of the Eora Nation.
Every night, we support 200 women and children impacted by homelessness, domestic violence and systemic disadvantage. We do this by providing material aid, case management, biopsychosocial support, accommodation, and crisis responses. Equally, we seek to address the underlying causes of gender based violence through primary prevention activities with communities that want to be a part of the global movement to end gender based violence in a generation.
THE ROLE
The team consists of two Child and Young Person (CYP) Case Managers, who report to the Team Leader and work within WAGEC's Client Services team. The role is based at our refuge sites, where women and children reside in crisis/temporary accommodation.
As a CYP Case Manager, you will work in partnership with case managers and the family / carers to support children and young people whose lives are impacted by homelessness and domestic and family violence. This role delivers trauma-informed intervention strategies to engage and sustain program participation of the children and their families while they reside within crisis accommodation and transitional housing settings.
CYP Case Managers engage and support children, young people and families in identifying strengths, safety and well-being needs, and desired outcomes. This includes engaging clients to complete initial safety and well-being assessments, and case plans that build on the family’s resilience and links them to appropriate networks.
This is a full-time, permanent role.
The core responsibilities of this role are:
Build trust and relationships with clients to conduct intakes and assessments of their needs while they are bases in crisis accommodation
Provide case management directly with children and young people in partnership with the parents/carers, ensuring that their immediate needs are addressed appropriately
Conduct risk and needs assessments, assist with safety planning and referrals to other services
Deliver programs to parents/carers and children and young people with the aim to increase parental capacity and support the healing and recovery journey from trauma
Provide occasional after-hours On-Call duties as part of a rotating roster
Build relationships with WAGEC teams and external stakeholders to find pathways for support for clients
Maintain accurate and timely case notes, data and reporting in relevant systems and databases
ABOUT YOU
You have at least 2 years of case management experience, ideally working with children and young people, and a good understanding of child development
You are skilled in building relationships with people who have complex needs
You're able to balance gaining the trust of children and their care-givers, with having difficult discussions concerning child safety, mandatory reporting and wellbeing
You are a supportive, team-player and great communicator, who enjoys sharing knowledge with other workers and students
You work from a trauma-informed, client-centred, strengths-based approach, and have practical skills in risk assessments, writing case notes and developing case plans
You’ll have Early Childhood, Social Work, Psychology or Community Services qualifications or experience, or similar, and are committed to continuous learning
