About Ageing Australia

Ageing Australia is the national peak body representing providers across the aged care sector, including retirement living, seniors housing, residential care, home care, community services and related supports.

They represent the majority of providers nationwide, advocating for a sector that empowers older Australians to age with dignity, care and respect. Through their national voice, Ageing Australia champions excellence, sustainability and innovation, ensuring members have the tools, resources and guidance to deliver exceptional services.

They have offices located across Australia and offer a flexible and mature working environment, as well as career progression opportunities as the organisation continues to expand.

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about using policy to make a tangible difference to the lives of older Australians? This is your chance to step into a newly created permanent role and help shape the future of aged care policy at a national level.

As part of the Policy and Advocacy Team, you’ll work closely with the Head of Quality and Research on some of the sector’s most pressing and complex challenges – from workforce and regulation to digital health and the interface with hospitals and disability.

This is a rare opportunity to:

  • Join a peak body at the forefront of sector reform and future system design
  • Take on diverse and intellectually stimulating policy work that spans across health, aged care and disability
  • Contribute directly to national advocacy – your work will help shape submissions, influence government thinking, and spotlight best practice solutions
  • Work in a culture that values collaboration, flexibility, and initiative, where your ideas and voice will have real impact

The Role

Working in a small team and reporting to the Head of Quality & Research, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking deep dives into a wide range of policy issues, bringing fresh thinking and evidence-based insights to complex challenges
  • Contributing to policy development and advocacy priorities through government and stakeholder engagement, research and submissions
  • Developing high-quality reports, position statements and submissions that amplify member perspectives and influence decision-makers
  • Engaging with members, government and sector partners to identify emerging issues, trends and opportunities
  • Representing Ageing Australia in forums, working groups and other key engagements
  • Working collaboratively across the Policy and Advocacy Team to deliver timely and impactful work on behalf of members

The Ideal Person

To be successful in this role, you’ll have experience in policy, research and/or advocacy in the areas of aged care, health, disability or a broader care-related field.

You’re ready for a role where your ideas, drive and initiative will be noticed. Confident, curious and strategic, you bring the courage to challenge thinking constructively and the drive to deliver meaningful outcomes. You enjoy variety, thrive in fast-moving environments, and are motivated by the chance to shape policy that makes a real difference for older Australians.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in social policy, health, research or a related field
  • Strong policy engagement skills, including submissions, stakeholder consultation and government relations
  • The ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery
  • A collaborative style and genuine passion for aged care reform and quality outcomes for older Australians

  • National travel opportunities (approx. 5 times per year for conferences, summits and member engagement)
  • Career progression opportunities as Ageing Australia continues to expand
