The University Representative Sport Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of representative sport programs at the University of Newcastle. This includes oversight of the Elite Athlete Program, UniSport UniNationals and Intervarsity competitions, and the University Basketball League (UBL) program. In addition to providing a support mechanism for student-athletes, the role will ensures high-quality experiences for student-athletes competing for the University of Newcastle, will help to foster university pride, and strength the University of Newcastle’s presence in national sporting competitions..
Highlights:
- Elite Athlete support: deliver an Elite Athlete support strategy for NUsport, while supporting student-athletes to fulfil both sporting and academic milestones
- UniSport team development: oversee the coordination of all teams representing the University of Newcastle at UniSport Australia events, including UniNationals, University Basketball League, National Championships (swimming, athletics, long-distance running), and inter-varsity events
- Event planning and management: work with the Sport Programs team to plan, and deliver high-quality events which showcase University of Newcastle athletes, and sport to broader Australian sporting landscapes
- Team collaboration: work closely and bring together a wide range of NUsport team members to deliver exceptional customer outcomes
What we’re looking for:
- Tertiary qualification in sport management, or similar is desirable
- Experience in elite sport, particularly within athlete support services is also desirable, as is an understanding of University sport
- Skills and experience
o Demonstrated experience in supporting athletes at various levels of representative sport
o Exceptional ability to collaborate with a large range of internal, and external stakeholders
o Exceptional communication abilities in both written and verbal mediums
o Strong ability to make sound decisions in complex environments with many competing interests
o Ability to embrace change and adapt to new initiatives, strategic direction or external requirements
o Strong ability to work independently while fulfilling needs of a large team
- Personal attributes
o Exceptional ability to quickly develop relationships and build strong communication channels
o Strong sense of time management and willingness to work to strict deadlines
o Confident decision maker, with an ability to adapt when priorities or requirements change
