Please Note: This role is based in Sunny Perth, Western Australia! Relocation Assistance may be offered if the suitable applicant is not living in Western Australia.
The State Solicitor's Office (the Office) is seeking dynamic and experienced lawyers to join its high-performing State Counsel Section, which delivers legal representation and strategic advice to the State Government across a broad spectrum of complex and sensitive civil and criminal matters. Successful candidates will demonstrate proven experience as counsel in contested court hearings, particularly in the Supreme or District Courts, and possess expertise in criminal law and/or proceedings under the High-Risk Serious Offenders Act 2020 (WA) and/or the Criminal Law (Mental Impairment) Act 2023 (WA) or similar legislation. Familiarity with the operation of these Acts is highly desirable.
Both areas involve regular appearances in contested matters before the Supreme Court and other jurisdictions, with a focus on community protection. Due to the nature of the work, teams are frequently exposed to highly sensitive and potentially traumatic material. To be suitable for the pool, applicants must possess a high level of resilience to meet the demands of the role.
Enjoy access to the Office’s in-house Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program and complimentary Law Society membership to support your professional growth. Interstate applicants are welcome to apply with relocation support available to help make your move to the west coast seamless.
