Assistant Nursery Manager
Part-time | 3 days per week | Hazelmere
Trillion Trees Australia is a long standing not for profit dedicated to restoring nature and biodiversity across Western Australia. Our NIASA accredited nursery in Hazelmere is at the heart of this mission producing around 200,000 high-quality native seedlings each year. These plants support our large-scale restoration projects, as well as community planting events, plants to residents programs, council projects, and retail sales. Every plant grown helps fund our core purpose: restoring landscapes and bringing people together to heal the planet.
Over the past 45 years, together with more than 80,000 volunteers, we’ve planted close to 15 million native trees and understory plants. Now, we’re seeking an Assistant Nursery Manager to join our close-knit team of three, reporting to our Nursery Manager and supported by a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, committed office staff, and an extraordinary volunteer community.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role supporting the Nursery Manager to plan, grow and deliver native seedlings that underpin both our restoration efforts and our community partnerships.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading nursery production tasks (propagation, potting, growing, irrigation, fertilising).
Monitoring and managing plant health, with a focus on pest and disease identification and management.
Supporting the Volunteer Coordinator to guide and train volunteers in nursery tasks.
Coordinating orders, dispatch, and retail nursery sales.
Ensuring NIASA accreditation standards, OH&S, and chemical management requirements are met.
Assisting with open days, workshops, planting events and other community activities.
Contributing to stock management, record keeping, and reporting.
This position is part time, 3 days per week, with flexibility required for occasional weekend work (operations or community events).
About You
You bring horticultural expertise and enjoy working alongside volunteers and community members. You will have:
Sound knowledge of WA native plants and nursery production processes.
Proven experience in plant health management, including pest and disease identification and effective control techniques.
Qualifications and/or strong experience in horticulture, native plant propagation, or environmental restoration.
Strong technology skills and comfortable learning and using various software.
Experience supervising or mentoring teams (volunteers and/or staff).
Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Capacity to work in a physically active, hands-on environment.
Current driver’s licence, First Aid, and ability to obtain a Working with Children Check and/or Police Clearance.
What We Offer
A meaningful role where the plants you grow directly support restoration and biodiversity across WA.
The chance to be part of a small, supportive team backed by a committed and passionate volunteer community.
A fun engaging workplace where collaboration, adaptability and purpose drive everything we do.
To Apply
Please send a short cover letter and resume outlining why you’re a great fit and your availability.
Applications without a cover letter unfortunately won’t be reviewed. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted. A full job description will be provided to short listed applications or by request.
