SBC is a leading provider of Enterprise Management Solutions for claims management, OH&S, insurance, risk management and case management systems in Australia. With offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Auckland and installed systems throughout Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific, we are seeking motivated staff to join our existing research and development team to help implement a number of major new systems for large Australian corporations and government agencies.

The role:

We are seeking a Database Administrator to join our Software Engineering and Database teams located in our Brisbane CBD office. The SBC Database team is responsible for the design, administration, security and daily operations of critical database infrastructure, including day-to-day database administration work, design and implementation of maintenance and optimisation tasks and assisting the development and network teams in deploying applications. This position is an excellent opportunity to work in an environment that is rapidly growing with daily varying challenges.

The key activities for the role are:

Proficiency in SQL scripting, tuning and query optimisation;

Design assistance with database migration and mapping tasks;

Ensure the availability and performance of client databases;

Design, configure, monitor and testing for all production databases;

Monitor live databases for emerging performance issues;

Database disaster recovery, planning, testing and deployment;

Troubleshooting database performance issues;

Maintaining/advancing the security configuration of the databases;

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in database support and operations.

Key Selection Criteria

Strong experience with MS SQLServer databases in 24 x 7 x 365 environment;

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with Project and Software Engineering Teams;

Strong knowledge of backup and recovery concepts (full, partial, piecemeal, read-only, encrypted);

Good understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, and database security;

Strong knowledge of Microsoft active directory concepts especially regarding security integration with SQL Server;

Must be detailed oriented, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be an aggressive self-starter;

Any knowledge of other databases such as PostgreSQL, MySql etc would be advantageous;

A strong sense of customer service, attention to detail and issue ownership.
