About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Legal Officer in the HCCC's Legal Services Division.

In this role, you will be responsible for the conduct of disciplinary prosecutions of registered health practitioners, including assisting the Director of Proceedings in making determinations to prosecute. You will also provide legal and policy advice and instruct counsel (or appear where appropriate) in hearings.

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to summarise complex legal and factual material and make succinct recommendations.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate with self-represented litigants, expert witnesses and investigators.
  • Legally qualified and admitted or eligible to be admitted as a legal practitioner in New South Wales
  • Previous experience in regulatory prosecutions, administrative law, litigation or similar.
  • Previous advocacy experience and willingness to undertake advocacy work in appropriate matters and instruct counsel.

Essential Requirements
To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must have existing Australian work rights.

Applicants must also have tertiary legal qualifications and be admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales and either hold or be eligible to apply for a NSW Practising Certificate

Given the HCCC's unique and critical role in maintaining the integrity of the NSW health system, it is essential that all prospective employees are able to carry out their duties in an independent, honest and consistent manner with uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.

The successful applicant will be required to complete a Background Verification Check which includes a National Police Check (Criminal History), qualification check, and may be required to hold a current paid Working with Children's Check (WWCC).
