Youturn is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Youth Support Officer to join our Toowoomba team. This is your opportunity to be part of a values-driven organisation that puts young people at the heart of everything we do.
As a Youth Support Officer, you’ll work directly with young people aged 12–21, helping them build confidence, resilience, and life skills. You’ll provide tailored support through case management, advocacy, and community engagement, while connecting them to vital services like mental health, housing, and education.
You’ll also:
Deliver innovative programs that promote wellbeing, self-esteem, and independence.
Build strong relationships with families, schools, and community networks.
Support young people through court processes and crisis situations.
Champion inclusivity, especially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and culturally diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver client-centred case management and early intervention strategies.
Facilitate access to education, employment, and specialist services (e.g. mental health, youth justice, accommodation, AOD).
Maintain accurate records, reports, and referrals in line with service agreements.
Participate in community networks and represent Youturn positively.
Ensure compliance with child safety, youth justice, and mandatory reporting requirements.
What You’ll Bring
A qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services or similar.
Experience working with vulnerable young people and a deep understanding of the challenges they face.
Strong communication and rapport-building skills.
A current Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain one), Suitability Check, and Open Driver’s Licence.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Essential Qualifications & Requirements:
A qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services or a related field, or equivalent experience.
A current Working With Children Check (Blue Card).
Eligibility for a Suitability Check from the Queensland Department of Child Safety.
A current Open Driver’s Licence.
Selection Criteria – Please address these in your application:
Demonstrated knowledge of client-centred case management principles and their practical application.
Understanding of the challenges facing young people experiencing instability and disadvantage.
Knowledge of child protection systems, youth justice, and mandatory reporting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to advocate effectively and respond to crisis situations.
Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and across services.
High-level written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and client information systems, or the ability to acquire these skills quickly.
