About the role

Play a pivotal role in the development and implementation of NESA’s cyber and data policies, driving strong governance, safeguarding sensitive information, and building trust in the services that support students, teachers, and the wider community.
You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment where your expertise will help ensure data is secure, well-governed, and strategically managed to support NESA’s commitments.
On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for:
Mentoring and supporting colleagues to deliver policy initiatives and comply with governance requirements.
- Leading the development and implementation of data management strategies that ensure secure and efficient data usage.
- Designing and enforcing policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practice and organisational needs.
- Providing expert policy advice on data security, access, and protection measures.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders to inform policy development and identify practical, effective data management solutions.
- Research, analyse, and review complex cyber and data policy issues, including emerging risks and evidence-based mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of policies, using data driven insights to enhance effectiveness and governance outcomes.
- Preparing reports, briefs, and correspondence to inform agency and government priorities.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience delivering policy initiatives and projects in environments that require adaptability, rapid analysis, and the integration of complex information.
- Strong knowledge of data management, governance, classification, access control, and security practices.
- Proven ability to develop and implement data related policies and frameworks that reduce risks and support compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and build collaborative relationships.
- The ability to translate complex policy and technical issues into clear, actionable recommendations.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.
- A valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearance for paid employment (prior to commencement, not required at application)
