The HR and Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic management of all human resources functions and the operational excellence of the company's four salon locations. This position ensures the business is supported by a talented, engaged, and high-performing team while driving efficiency, profitability, and growth through streamlined operations. The role requires a balance of strategic planning and hands-on management to uphold the company's standards of service, culture, and commercial success.
1. Human Resources Management
Recruitment & Workforce Planning: Manage end-to-end recruitment and forecast future staffing needs to support business growth and succession planning.
Onboarding & Training: Develop a comprehensive induction program and identify ongoing training needs to upskill the team.
Performance Management: Implement and manage a regular performance review cycle, provide guidance on performance issues, and foster a culture of feedback and recognition.
Employee Relations & Compliance: Act as the primary point of contact for HR enquiries, ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act, and mediate staff conflicts.
Policy Development: Create, review, and update the employee handbook and all internal policies to ensure they are current, compliant, and clearly communicated.
Culture & Wellbeing: Develop initiatives to foster a positive, motivating work environment and support the overall wellbeing of the team.
2. Salon Operations Management
Operational Consistency & Quality Assurance: Ensure all salons operate in accordance with company policies and brand standards. Conduct regular site visits to audit the client journey and overall salon presentation.
Work Health & Safety (WHS): Develop and enforce all WHS policies. Ensure compliance with regulations, conduct safety audits, and manage incident reporting.
Facilities & Maintenance: Coordinate all repairs, maintenance, and salon refurbishments, acting as the main point of contact for property-related issues. Maintain a log of lease renewals.
Inventory & Supplier Management: Oversee the central inventory system, manage supplier relationships, and implement stock control measures to minimise waste and prevent loss.
Technology & Systems: Manage and troubleshoot all business-critical technology, including booking software, phone systems, and security.
Strategic & Commercial Management
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Monitor salon KPIs. Prepare and present weekly and monthly performance reports to the Company Director with actionable insights.
Budgeting & P&L Oversight: Assist in developing annual budgets and actively manage salon expenses to ensure profitability targets are met.
Business Growth & Strategy: Collaborate with the Director to set strategic goals. Lead the operational rollout of marketing campaigns and new service launches.
Risk Management & Legal: Identify and mitigate potential business risks. Ensure all business licenses, permits, and insurance policies are current and compliant.
Business Development: Actively research and present opportunities for expansion, such as new salon locations, service innovations, or local business partnerships.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a multi-site operational management role.
Demonstrated experience across a broad range of HR functions.
Experience within the hair/beauty, high-end retail, or hospitality industries is highly desirable.
Proven ability to read, interpret, and analyse financial reports, including Profit & Loss statements.
A tertiary qualification in Business Management, Human Resources, or a related field is advantageous.
