About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Practitioner – Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing care for clients affected by substance use, including the provision of pharmacotherapy and harm reduction strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of clients experiencing substance use disorders.
Prescribe and manage medication-assisted treatment for opioid dependence (MATOD), including buprenorphine and methadone.
Deliver education, counselling, and health promotion to clients and their families.
Collaborate closely with GPs, psychiatrists, AOD counsellors, and social workers.
Contribute to care planning, case conferencing, and coordinated service delivery.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
Registered with AHPRA as a Division 1 Registered Nurse.
Relevant post-graduate qualifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), mental health, or addiction nursing (or working toward).
Demonstrated clinical experience working with clients experiencing AOD issues, including pharmacotherapy.
Understanding of harm minimization, trauma-informed care, and dual diagnosis.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
Current Police Check (within 12 months).
Desirable
MATOD prescriber training completed (e.g. RACGP AOD Training or equivalent).
Experience in community health or primary care settings.
Familiarity with Best Practice or other clinical software.
