About the Role

As our Centre Cook, you will play a crucial role in creating and serving delicious, healthy, and child-friendly meals to meet the diverse needs of children aged 6 weeks to 5 years. You will be responsible for planning and preparing daily menus in accordance with Australian Dietary Guidelines and any specific requirements, such as allergies, cultural or religious preferences, and individual dietary needs.

Your work will contribute directly to the children’s growth, development, and enjoyment while supporting families and the wider centre community. This is an ideal position for someone who is creative, organised, and passionate about food and nutrition for young people.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan weekly and seasonal menus that are balanced, appealing, and tailored to the needs of children from diverse backgrounds.

· Prepare, cook, and serve fresh, nutritious meals and snacks daily, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.

· Ensure all meals comply with food safety standards, centre policies, and dietary guidelines.

· Adapt recipes for specific allergies, intolerances, and special dietary requirements (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, cultural observances).

· Engage with children to encourage healthy eating habits and a positive attitude towards food.

· Order, receive, and manage food supplies, maintaining accurate inventory and minimising waste.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment at all times, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

· Work collaboratively with educators and families to ensure meal plans align with the needs and preferences of the centre community.

· Participate in menu reviews, staff meetings, and professional development as required.

· Model and promote the values of Smart Start Early Learning in all interactions.
